On 20 July 2016, a panel discussion hosted by Altus Analytics at The Savoy Hotel, London, explored the readiness of the real estate market for the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), which come into force on 01 April 2018.
From this date, landlords will not be permitted to rent out any property with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of lower than an E (F or G).
This applies to all properties that are required to have an EPC under the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2012, with the exception of those rented out on a short (six months or fewer) or long (>99 years) lease.
